Unity FAQ

What is Unity?
Just like before, "Unity" is the name of our virtual desktop infrastructure. We kept the name to make it easier for users.
Is this like VDI?
Funny you should ask. "VDI" stands for "Virtual Desktop Infrastructure," but you may be talking about having your own personal desktop, or "developer workstation."
Can I get a VDI (or developer workstation)?
We call these "personal desktops," as opposed to "shared desktops." If you have a need for one, please reach out to the Unity Support Team.
Who is the Unity Support Team?
Please open a ticket in ServiceNow, for the Azure team (WWOF-C-AZURE).
Is this Citrix?
Citrix is a vendor of VDI technology, yes. At Workwear Outfitters, we use a technology that is similar, but different. It's called Azure Virtual Desktop.
What is Azure?
Azure is the Cloud Infrastructure environment provided by Microsoft. We use many Azure services. WWOF Unity is a very small part of what is available on Azure.
Where is Unity running?
It's running on the Microsoft cloud, which is also where other things are, such as our email, SharePoint, OneDrive, Dynamics, and more.
Why was the old app called "Remote Desktop? Why is the new app called "Windows App?"
Microsoft seems to be choosing confusing names for their Azure Virtual Desktop clients. We tend to call it the "Unity Client," but it is called "Windows App" on your computer.
